About Modern Family Finance

Modern Family Finance is a fee-only independent financial planning firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area that serves women and LGBTQ professionals — many of whom are tech employees or self-employed.

We combine comprehensive financial planning, tax planning, and investment management to help our clients make confident, values-aligned decisions. Our clients tend to be thoughtful, ambitious mid-career professionals in their 30s–50s who want their financial life to reflect their personal and family values.

Our mission is simple: provide tax-smart financial advice for modern families, delivered like a trusted friend.

We’re a small, collaborative team who values Good Work, Good People, and Good Times. We take our work seriously but not ourselves, and we believe that good financial planning changes lives.

We’re Hiring: Client Services Associate (Contract)

Opportunity

We are looking for a Client Services Associate who genuinely loves helping people and takes pride in delivering an exceptional client experience.

This is not a sales or advisory role. Our clients trust us with their family’s financial lives, and you will play a central role in honoring that trust. You will be the connective tissue between our advisor, our systems, and our clients — making sure every interaction feels thoughtful, organized, and human.

This role is a great fit if you enjoy operational work, client communication, and creating order behind the scenes. If you are detail-oriented, proactive, and motivated by making things easier for others, this role will feel deeply rewarding.

What You’ll Do

Deliver a Seamless Client Experience

  • Coordinate and manage the onboarding of new clients from start to finish
  • Ensure each client interaction is warm, organized, and stress-free

Execute Operations with Precision

  • Prepare and process account openings, transfers, contributions, and distributions
  • Handle paperwork accurately and efficiently, with close attention to detail

Manage Systems & Data

  • Maintain accurate client records in our CRM
  • Manage electronic workflows and document management systems

Support Client Communication

  • Assist clients via video calls with operational needs (paperwork, money movement, account logistics)
  • Provide proactive updates so clients always know what to expect next

Support Relationship-Building Efforts

  • Assist with client touches such as gifting, holiday cards, and occasional client events

Improve How We Work

  • Identify inefficiencies or friction points and help us improve processes over time

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Clients experience less friction and fewer follow-ups

    • You anticipate needs, reduce back-and-forth, and take ownership of follow-through.
  • Clients feel supported, informed, and at ease
    • They know what’s happening, what comes next, and who to contact.
  • Operations run smoothly and accurately
    • Paperwork, money movement, and account logistics are handled correctly and on time.
  • The advisor can rely on you completely
    • You communicate clearly, follow through consistently, and think one step ahead.
  • The firm improves over time
    • You contribute ideas that enhance workflows, efficiency, and the overall client experience.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of financial planning industry experience is highly preferred; motivated career transitioners are welcome
  • Strong organizational skills and uncompromising attention to detail
  • High emotional intelligence and a calm, friendly demeanor
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort learning new tools and technology (CRM systems, custodial platforms, and client portals)
  • Ability to self-start and thrive in a remote, entrepreneurial environment
  • Alignment with the mission of Modern Family Finance and enthusiasm for working with women and LGBTQ clients

Hours and Compensation

  • Flexible part-time contract role (30-40 hours per week)
  • Hourly rate of $20–$30 per hour, depending on experience
  • Hours are adjustable based on the needs of the firm, with flexibility to set your own schedule
  • Fully remote position; we are a fully virtual practice
  • Potential for hours to increase as the firm grows
  • Potential to grow into a full-time position
  • Mentorship and opportunity to be part of a unique, mission-driven practice

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • 100% remote role with flexibility and autonomy
  • Work with thoughtful, kind clients — women, LGBTQ professionals, and modern families
  • Be part of a collaborative team where your ideas genuinely matter
  • See the direct impact of your work on real families — helping them feel calm, informed, and cared for
